Pollen Trap with Tray
Pollen contains the male cell needed by flowering plants for fertilization and seed formation. Flower pollen collects on the legs and bodies of worker bees, and it can also include some nectar. Pollen comes from many plants, so the contents of a container of bee pollen can vary significantly depending on the region and month it was collected. Bees can collect as much as 65 lbs. of pollen per year, per hive. The honeybee uses pollen as a protein rich source of food.
This pollen trap with tray does not interfere with Varroa monitoring using a screened bottom board. This trap collects under 50% of the bees' pollen. It mounts on the front of a standard 10 frame wooden hive and helps beekeepers gather pollen during a strong flow. Pollen should be taken from the trap daily to prevent growth of small hive beetles in the trap. Freeze your pollen and check it for debris before selling for human consumption.
Please note, this trap is not designed to fit BeeMax or 8 frame equipment. Pollen sales can be a nice addition to your apiary income, and this trap makes it really simple to gather!
